Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and Bookish.
I cannot believe it’s Tuesday again! Wasn’t it Tuesday like yesterday? Ah well, here we go again. This week’s topic is ten books I really love but feel like I don’t talk about enough or haven’t talked about in a while.
- Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Come on, I want to talk about this book all the time, you should be happy that I actually show some restraint concerning this.
- A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. This has magic, pretty boys, badass girls and amazing adventure. Magical and I ought to talk about this book every single day (no, seriously).
- The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. SERIOUSLY. Gentlemen soldiers who are complete idiots. Oh yes, this book is actually really fantastic. I feel like the women in this book constantly were rolling their eyes at the stupid boys waving their little pointy needles (hellooo, it’s called a sword). Gold star if you get that reference, if not I have a movie tip for you.
- Becoming Darkness by Lindsay Brambles. THIS HAS NAZI VAMPIRES and is a great what if. What if Hitler had won, and what if he had done so because a disease turning people into vampires was what gave him the upper hand. It also has a better version of the Romeo and Juliet story.
- Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Mostly I need to talk more about this book because I’m the biggest cynic ever and I believe that Romeo and Juliet perfectly illustrate’s why teenagers in love are idiots. (No, teenagers themselves aren’t idiot, but once they fall in love for the first time it’s like their brain cells just die)
- Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix. Let’s just put it like this, I will never be able to look at an IKEA store in the same way again. This entire thing messed me up and the last time I was at IKEA I was literally trying to feel out the atmosphere for evil ghosts (do you realize what a huge problem this is? I’m Swedish. We practically LIVE at IKEA).
- Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. Because I NEED for your heart to break as much as mine. This book made me cry ok. That’s not okay and I want to use this book when I become a teacher because I think it’s something young people need to read.
- Any Terry Pratchett book ever. Because they are written with so much satire and wit and just overall knowledge of our world. They are hilarious and beautiful and just makes you think about your own world in ways you didn’t think possible when you first started reading. I bow down to you my good Sir and hope heaven is treating you right.
- Polgara the Sorceress by David Eddings. Polgara is a kickass woman ready to do what it takes to protect those she loves. She has lived for so long, suffered so much and she still has such a good heart. She also spends a lot of the time eye rolling at her male companions stupidity. She was one of the first strong women apart from my mom and grandmom that I looked up to.
- The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson. It perfectly illustrates how grief messes you up. Grief is something that scars you and throws you so much off track that it is sometimes impossible to get back to where you started. Grief is a demon and it is only you that can vanquish it. Everyone who has ever lost anyone will recognise themselves in this book.
That was my top ten for this week. Hope you enjoyed!
