Separated from the girl he loves and has sworn to protect, Froi and his companions travel through Charyn searching for Quintana and building an army that will secure her unborn child’s right to rule. While in the valley between two kingdoms, Quintana of Charyn and Isaboe of Lumatere come face-to-face in a showdown that will result in heartbreak for one and power for the other.
This is the final book in the Lumatere Chronicles. And what an ending. This pretty much blew my mind. Such an epic trilogy and it was painful to let it go. But it was a deserving ending and a beautiful finish to the series.
The story is beautiful and all the central characters change as people and their relationship, whether romantic or not, changes according to events. I loved seeing Froi going from a sort of minor character in the first book to a main character in the final two. He is an amazing example of someone starting off as a “bad” character and developing into someone good.
Quintana is a lovely strange little creature and you will be surprised to find yourself just as in love with her as you will be with the other characters. This is her book for a very good reason. She will prove herself to all those who doubt her and she will prove herself to you.
There is an extensive cast of characters in this book, all of them playing important roles. After having read Froi of the Exiles, meeting these characters again felt like returning home to good old friends. I loved how Marchetta used her minor characters in ways that kept them as minor characters but still gave them important roles. No matter how small, their part still mattered.
This entire series is a masterpiece and I urge you to go and read it if you haven’t done so already.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, I do.
